In his early teens Jean Nil Theroux learned to play fiddle while working winters in the logging camps of Northern Maine and New Hampshire. Before chainsaws were widely used the men would hum or whistle tunes while they worked. Jean's $10 fiddle served him well enough for him to figure out those tunes and many more.

about

Patrick Ross Newbury, Vermont

It all started with a little, plastic, toy fiddle.
I was born and raised in Vermont, on the border of Canada. My Dad taught me how to fish, hunt, and play music without reading notes. I wanted to be like him, so I started learning folk tunes at about age 6. I’m lucky to have begun so young. My first gig was when I was 11. I’ve been playing professionally since.
